SUMMER READING PROGRAM: AMERICA 250
|
Celebrate with us the 250th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. The signing of the Declaration of Independence was a pivotal moment in American history, when 56 of our founding fathers committed to the birth of a new nation. Representing the original 13 colonies, the 56 delegates to the Second Continental Congress signed the Declaration at Independence Hall in Philadelphia on August 2, 1776.
The significance of this event proclaimed the colonies as “free and independent States” that were no longer colonies of Great Britain, culminating the colonist’s long struggle for independence and the establishment of a new government. |
