1,000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN
|
Early literacy skills have a lifetime impact on educational and occupational success. To aid in the goal of aiding individual successes in our community, OPL encourages parents to read
1000 books to each child before starting Kindergarten. 1000 books may sound like a lot, but OPL is here to help you reach that goal together! If you read just one book per day, you can reach the goal in only three years. |
HOW DOES THE PROGRAM WORK?
• Read with your child. Studies have shown that reading with your child provides a great opportunity for bonding. Reading together is fun and will create life-long memories for the both of you. • Keep track of the books you read with your child. Register with OPL when you are ready to start. OPL will gladly provide log sheets to help you keep track. This log will be a great keepsake item for your precious child. • If you lose a log sheet, please visit the link on this page to print a new log sheet, or you may visit the library for a new log sheet. • Bring the log to the library; when you reach milestones, OPL wants to celebrate with you! Your child’s picture belongs on the Superstar Reader wall! • When you finish all 1000 books, you can congratulate yourself! You gave your child a very precious gift--the readiness to read! • OPL will celebrate with you by posting your child’s celebratory photograph online. |
